This research effort targets the analysis of the factors that are important for the effective use of climate information for reservoir management. Specifically we will address questions such as “Given a set of management objectives and strategy, how do reservoir capacity, mean inflow and forecast uncertainty interact to affect the utility of forecast information?” To address such questions we identify the key characteristics of the major problem elements having to do with hydroclimate, reservoir physical characteristics, and management objectives and candidate strategies. Our proposed methodology relies on analytical and numerical studies for idealized systems that would bring to fore the significant interactions between the important elements of the problem.
