RADAR/RAINGAUGE RAINFALL ESTIMATION SYSTEM FOR RIO YAQUI

Mexico

Sponsors: NOAA
StartDate: 06/1997
PI/Co-PIs: Dr. Georgakakos
Collaborators: NWS, SMN

The general theme of the present study is the design of operational systems for the estimation of rainfall over the Rio Yaqui watershed in Northwest Mexico using raingauge and weather radar data. In collaboration with Staff of the U.S. National Weather Service, Riverside Technology, Inc., and Mexican National Meteorological Service (Servicio Meteorologico Nacional – SMN), the study addressed the development of a raingauge network for the purpose of complementing weather radar information in real time and the development of quality control procedures for the radar data from the Obregon radar, which covers the basin of interest.
